From the Local Organizing Committee, chaired by Dr. Rodrigo Soto Lagos (Andres Bello University) and co-chaired by Dr. Miguel Cornejo Améstica (Concepción University) and by Mg. Jorge Galvez (Pontific Catholic University of Valparaiso), we are very happy to host the 56th World Congress of Sociology of Sport and we are delighted to bring together the Latin American Association of Socio-Cultural Studies of Sport (ALESDE) and the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) in the same academic event.
Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this congress will now be held virtually during the new dates of November 15 - 19, 2021.
The sociology of sport, while grounded in sociology, has always been much more of a social science of sport. In addition to sociology, work in the field encompasses history, political science, human geography, anthropology, social psychology and economics. Also, the new off-shoots of sociology such as, cultural studies, media studies, and gender studies, are well represented in the field.
