From the Local Organizing Committee, chaired by Dr. Rodrigo Soto Lagos and co-chaired by Dr. Miguel Cornejo Améstica, we are very happy to host the 56th World Congress of Sociology of Sport and we are delighted to bring together the Latin American Association of Socio-Cultural Studies of Sport (ALESDE) and the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) in the same academic event.
Our region is proud of having the oldest football club in America called Santiago Wanderers (founded in 1892), and for being the "principal port" of the country, and also for being the center of several tourist attractions.
The congress will be held between October 14 and 17, 2020 at the facilities of the Andres Bello University in Viña del Mar.
The sociology of sport, while grounded in sociology, has always been much more of a social science of sport. In addition to sociology, work in the field encompasses history, political science, human geography, anthropology, social psychology and economics. Also, the new off-shoots of sociology such as, cultural studies, media studies, and gender studies, are well represented in the field.
